The world’s going mad…

Friday, November 28th, 2008

In the news headlines today…

Judge describes Yim’s behaviour as sadistic
On our national front, housewife Yim gets 18 years in prison for abusing her maid, Nirmala Bonat. The act of Yim abusing Nirmala shows that she is really resorting to violence in solving issues. Whether was it out of ‘fear’ that the maid will abuse her children or not, is not the matter. It is just sad that we are now using violence so solve our personal problems.

Thai protest leaders call for ‘fight to the death’
Up north, our neighbours are facing one of the worst coups they ever encountered. Two of their international gateway is now under siege by protectors. All these while, Thais are known to be very gentle and very non-aggressive, hence the Siam is nicknamed the Land of Smiles. The sudden aggression is really something unexpected. The peace loving Thais suddenly resorting to violence to get their way is also very disturbing.

and what saddened me the most …

Mumbai attacks: domestic Indian terrorism with a global twist
The recent mayhem seen over at the Indian subcontinent left so many dead. The whole city is trembling and the world can only offer their condolences. Again, the theme here is using violence to get one’s way. You don’t give in to me, I will take it by force.

Sigh…

A mini experiment session with the new baby!

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Did a mini experimenting session since I am ’single’ for the week.

I did some picture taking at home. All the pictures here are just resized without any touch-up

My first model of course was my little Gabu; Child No.3

gabu

This was set in the wide-angle mode. Tried it with the smallest f-stop number.

apple

This apple was taken using the many preset scene modes. This is the “Food’ option. The blur colour tint is in-built to show the food better. A bit too blue for my taste though.

pepper

How about a little pepper? My little mini camera isn’t capable of the BOKEH photography, but I liked the fact the f2.8 is enough to show the slight blur. What to do, compact camera mah!

exposure
Then I decided to do a little comparison by playing with the shutter speed to get the perfect exposure. Of course, I would want to play with movement, but I’ll leave that for a little later.

ISO
ISO setting is another thing that is rather common now in compact cameras and this little baby boasts of having the highest ISO setting ever! 12400!! mind-blowing yes, and that’s about it. Absolutely no practical usage or what so ever!

All in all, I am really satisfied with this purchase and would be experimenting further when I next go on a holiday since BKK is out of the question now with the current situation over at the Suvarnabhumi airport. So sad but what to do…

Since we are on the toys subject …

Everyone seems to be trying to get their hands on the new iPhone 3G.

Unfortunately for us in Malaysia, this phone has yet to be launched. My friends who are interested in this phone have been really keeping tabs on it. Hong Kong and Singapore are the two closest places that have been surveyed and the good news is that you can actually buy this phone unlocked. These searching for unlocked cell phones makes the whole experience even more exciting for the buyer I guess.

I really got to take my hat off to the marketing folks over at Apple. No matter what kind of product they launch from Mp3 players to their super canggih computers, they seem to have found the winning formula in pushing this products to the market. Sell at a premium price with a seemingly superior design/technology and horn a huge following to their ‘cult’. Maybe I should plan my next class (marketing) assignment on the folks over at Apple. Know anyone ??
