Baby boom year

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

I cannot even start to mention how many babies are my friends expecting this year (ok, it is from different friends, but still, it’s the same for me!). Gosh this has got to be a sign of old age. Anyway, getting baby gifts are always a headache.Getting unique baby gifts are the hardest!

This is when I am very grateful that I have picked up crocheting again and learning to knit. Hand made gifts are often the best because there will never be two same gifts!! This is what I think I should include into the gift list

1. Pair of booties

2. Pair of mittens (much match booties)

3. A little handmade towel (more like edging a terry cloth towel)

What do you all think? Especially the father of coming new born baby, you know who you are!

Alex is down

… possibly dengue fever. Have to wait for tomorrow’s blood test to confirm.

Update: His temperature has gone down today. Will monitor and see..

Update2: Alex’s test results came back and shows that he doesn’t have dengue. Thank God. Close call. All the GP we went to suspected dengue at first go! Plus there is a Chikungunya outbreak in Malaysia now

Yet another parcel…

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

and no, I’ve not been shopping online again. This parcel was due to the fact the nice little lady made a slight mistake in sending me the cats eyes which I wanted so she made that a gift and send this again.

Sorry for the bad picture. Just want to show you guys the difference with the eyes!

Car Shuddering

Monday, August 25th, 2008

I really don’t need this kind of problems now. With the pressure from the exams mounting up, my car is giving me problems. My car begin to shuddering at the start of last week and at first I was thinking probably it was cold or something. But after sending the little fella for service last Saturday, the service advisor suggested that my petrol could have been laced with another substance; diesel or water. A quick check on Saturday already ruled out the spark plugs or timing belt.I should be sending in my car this evening and let them do a thorough check. I am praying for the best!!

:(

Update: Car is ready. Seems that they changed a whole lot of things but I just need to pay for the spark plugs only. Since that is considered as consumables and not hardware of the car. Until now they cannot confirm the contamination of the petrol. Whatever it is. I am grateful that it’s done. Let’s hope the car behaves well from now on.

Topsy-turvy

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Things at work has been slightly chaotic. My boss for the past one and half years has resigned to join back his former company and because that former company is a competitor (which I don’t see why, we are really in different business segment) he had to leave within 24 hours of his resignation. So such sudden departure has cause quite a stir among the engineering communities (yes, it is plural) here. Many were whispering down the hallways why the short notice? Has he done anything wrong? Even when the Vice President resigned there isn’t a 24 hour pack up order! Come to think of it, even when the CEO left, it was for a longer period of notice. Anyway, the direction came from HR director so it is to be obeyed.

Besides the chaotic situation at work,  I have a major exam coming in less than a fortnight’s time. Time is jealous of me. just cannot find the will power to even continue on a study marathon. My attention span’s the same of that with a 9-year old. Alex has been scolding me (for my own good) to just keep at it. Let’s face it, I am no scholar material but I also know that if I don’t find my will power soon, I could jolly well be facing getting an ‘F’ for this subject!!! Boo hoo!!!

Spoils from Online Shopping Escapades!

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

I have been a very bad girl. I am not suppose to buy anymore things after the recent rock climbing gear purchase but then I cannot help myself. These are just wonderful!

All the amigurumi that I have been making, I buy the safety eyes from a local yarn store which sells them at a slightly higher price but for convenience sake, I just buy them. Until recently, it might be more economical if I just buy a bunch of them. So I went to an Etsy store and got myself several things!

package

 The package

The lady over at the Etsy store is Clara and she is the sweetest seller ever! Very quick to answers to all the inquiries. The unfortunate part for her was that she mixed up the order a little and gotten me a 9mm black eyes instead of the 9mm cat eyes which I requested for. But once I notified her she offered me the original 9mm black eyes as a gift! What a sweet lady!

Let’s look at the eyes shall we?

6mm

The 6mm eyes. A total of 10 pairs in a pack!

The 9mm and the 6mm side by side for comparison

nose

Clara even included a very cute nose for me to try! How wonderful isn’t it? (The ear phones is just to show u the size of the nose)

Alex was asking me why I needed so many pairs of eyes. Naturally my answer was that I am going to start an amigurumi army ! :p

After the little shopping over at Etsy, there is again the lure of the Ebay dark side. Although most of the time I just drool over at the wonderful yarns they have because the shipping from the US to Malaysia would most probably kill off all the savings of purchasing it online, it was then when this seller from Inner Mongolia appeared offering free shipping for beautifully hand painted wool yarn! At that moment, I just lost it and purchased two lots! One is for a friend and one is for me. I’ll just show you my stash. The colours of the yarn turned out more beautiful than the photograph on the site did! I just hope I do the colours justice!

handpaintedyarn

Had to photograph the yarn at different angles to show off all the colours. Don’t you think it’s just so yummy? When I collected this baby from the post office, my colleagues all wanted to pet the yarn. It has the most wonderful feel to it. Although I must add, the alpaca silk yarn I had earlier is still the yummiest yarn I own!

I first came across this term when Helen Hunt used it in What Women Want when she welcomed Mel Gibson into her apartment. Kind of tickled me then!
