A Meme : Fabulous ‘Friday’ Five

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Siew Jang actually tagged me on Friday tapi gua tarak nampak. So I’m pleading ignorance/negligence here (too much law assignment). So here goes

DO YOU PREFER…

1. To watch or participate?
Participate. I like to be in the action. But of course, if watching movie, watch only la. Won’t be telling the whole theatre about what I think the leads should be doing.

2. Malls, catalog shopping, or the Internet?
I’m ok with all three, although if there is an absolute must to choose, I’ll choose malls. Always like to ‘feel’ what I am getting. But sometimes with Internet it’s so convenient! The least favourite way is to catalog shop. No added benefit.

3. A bath or shower?
That depends whether its alone or with someone! LOL!!

4. To talk to people by telephone, in person or by e-mail?
In person of course. Unless I’m scolding that person big time, I will email. Don’t want to see them bawling in front of me or causing the telephone to malfunction from the tears.

5. Typing or writing?
Typing. If I have to hand-write all my assignments, I am going to die. It is hard enough at it is to write during examinations. I wonder if I can request for a typewriter for exams??

Now to tag:

1. San

2. LiLian

3. Sila/Hisham (both of you can decide who to do it)

4. Wee Lee

5. Kamkuey

Rock Climbing Infatuation

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

I have been joining a group of colleagues on a weekly rock-climbing for quite some time now. The group is now growing bigger and bigger with more regulars joining the sessions.
Now seriously thinking of getting my own gears but one major consideration of course is the price of these equipments. The basics equipments used are the shoes, the harness, the carabiner and the belay device.

Let’s begin with the shoes. Rock climbing shoes are different from the normal shoes we have for running/jogging/gym because it is shaped to curve the feet so that we can grip onto the crevices better and also the tip of the shoes are made of very high friction material to provide additional grip.

This is what is available for rental by the climbing centre. Do not particular fancy this as it is a lace up and makes removing and putting on again very cumbersome. This is an important point because you do not want to wear the shoes when you’re not climbing as the shoes are not exactly the most comfortable pair. Plus, the shoes there are very much worn out and have been repaired making it exceptionally uncomfortable.

The wishlist for shoes are as follows :-

The La Sportiva Katana for women : Everything’s good except the price. Retailing at USD$125 but there are some offers going out for about USD$ 60-70 for a used pair. Used pair option is not an option really. Somebody else’s shoes. No Thank you. In Malaysia, it is slightly above the RM400 mark.

The Wasabi Rock Shoe : Nice. Retails at USD$ 99.99 Now available at US$69.90.This is tempting. After conversion (USD1:RM3.3), it will cost me around RM231. With no shipping factored in yet.

The Rock Pillars Stream : My colleague have these but these are just getting too expensive. It is in the mid RM300 range. He bought them much cheaper

Sigh. Should I or should I not spend on these?

Interestingly. I saw this sign on one of the cars on my way back from work. Maybe I should stick one of these and say “Will belay for Shoes!”

Update(24 Apr 2008): Picture Upload

I’ve decided to chomp off my locks for a bob. Will be uploading a picture when I can. Watch this space.

p/s: And for those wondering if I have gone through some life changing events recently, it’s mainly because the ends of my hair were all committing hara-kiri. Might as well ‘kill’ them before they ‘kill’ themselves, no? :)

I’ve uploaded some of the pictures I took while I was in Europe. These are the first few days when I am there. While uploading the pictures, I feel that I miss Europe already… This is terrible.. The links are also available under the Photo Album section

I miss having time to crochet :(

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Recently I seem to have so much happening around me. I totally miss the time when I had so much time to do my crocheting. My Summer Bliss Afghan is not progressing at all. Probably added 2 or 3 rows after that picture was taken. Now it just sits quietly in the adjacent room.

I’ve got several projects that I wanted to complete other than the afghan. I wanted to make some more of those cute amigurumis. Downloaded so many patterns online and yet didn’t start any of that.

Plus, I have two more assignments to complete before middle of May and have to study for my Operations Management Finals too. Sometimes I wish I just don’t have to come to work!!! (hahaha!)

a 37 ” LCD TV!!!

We went shopping over at 1-Utama’s while waiting for my in-laws to arrive from Sitiawan. After getting a few of my stuff, we somehow wandered into a Best Denki store and were looking at its promotion on its LCD TVs.

We were particularly attracted to one Panasonic model because of the price but then were quickly turned off due to the short period of the warranty. The sales assistant then was pushing to us the 37 inch Toshiba Regza.  This model was really attractive. Great specifications at a very affordable price (i.e. below RM 4k). Needless to say, the temptation was growing really strong at this point. It was when we thought about the delivery from 1-Utama to ulu-ulu Subang Jaya we decided to not get it from the Best Denki there and should be gettting from a Best Denki in Summit which was much nearer to our home.

So, after the meet-up with in-laws and enroute back home, Alex turned into Summit to ‘pick’ up the TV. The sales assistant there told us to hold our purchase till 2-3 weeks later when the newer model will be in at the same price. Luckily we didn’t impulsely paid for the one in 1-utama. Seeing that we were rather disappointed, he came back to us with a very attractive offer. The display set for a price that is slightly above rm3k! A new form of temptation but I really didn’t like the idea of a display set for items such as TV because of the life span. Other stuff such as bookshelves or such, where the lifespan is not important, I would most probably have taken.

There ya go. No big screen TV for me to run a LOTR marathon.  :(

Short update

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

I know I have been really slacking when it comes to upkeeping this blog and I am truly sorry.  Things have been slightly busy since I returned from my Europe trip.

As mentioned earlier, the house was in a condition where I wouldn’t dare show it to anyone. But luckily that’s under control now. Still, no one really visits me, therefore, I am safe!

Other than that, last weekend, we went back to Sitiawan because it was Cheng Beng. My parents took a bus to Penang for Cheng Beng as well because my brother was on a work assignment in Penang and would be driving them after the event. I had to send my folks to the bus station over at the old KTM station and go for my Saturday afternoon class, after which Alex and I drove back to Sitiawan. We reached Sitiawan pretty late. Had dinner and went straight to back. I was exhausted.

Early next morning, we got up and headed for the graves. Good thing about Sitiawan graves is that it is usually cemented unlike the graves in Penang, where people there usually will grow grass. Imagine untrimmed grass that have been left to grow for one year. Horror!!

Right after the Cheng Beng, we had lunch and went back to Sitiawan. As the West Coast is now having a monsoon change, every evening has been raining cats and dogs. We didn’t want to be caught in the torrential storm that is why we took off early. Unfortunately, the skies started pouring even at 3pm itself. Tough luck!
