The Obligatory Post

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Nothing spectacular. Just simple dinner with family on the night before because now the poor little girl have got evening classes on top of a full day at work. The wish, is that this torture ends as soon as possible.

A New Semester Begins

Friday, January 25th, 2008

Time really flies huh? I’ve not only finished my first semester exams, but the new term is also beginning. Went for the first class, Performance & Management Accouting on Monday to check it out. I am very tempted to have elective subject as part of the MBA. The bad news is that I have to sit for the Accounts & Finance paper prerequisite before I can attempt to take this paper. The good news is that the lecturer is lenient and will allow me in this class despite not fulfilling this criterion. After discussing this will several friends, I decided that I am not ready to take on this. Better wait till I completed to the A&F module first.

Today (and for the rest of the new 1.5 weeks) , I will be attending the Operations Management module. Weekdays will be conducted from 6:30pm till 9:30pm and weekends will be 9:30am till 5:30pm. So I will most probably be MIA throughout whole block. Classes are only ending on 3rd February. Just in time for CNY celebrations.

Speaking of CNY celebrations, I didn’t manage to shop for as many clothes as I would like but I hope I have enough. (which is never the case, heck, although I’m officially an engineer, I am still a girl) I still need a dress and some tops. Let’s hope I can sneak in a bit of shopping la throughout the block module nightmare.

Besides clothes, I was actually looking for kumquat plant to have in the house. Just to give the compound a bit of the CNY feel. Unfortunately all the plants I’ve seen this year is either too expensive or it’s like some cat has had its fun with the plant! So in the end, I bought some pussywillow to put in the Chinese vase Alex had. The pussywillow was dyed in a deep crimson colour. I find it rather interesting although it is artificial! Will try to get a nice picture to put up!

Congratulations Mr & Mrs Ding

How does that sound?

On Tuesday, when I went to work, in my dazed state due to lack of sleep, my boss and fellow teamate approached me and said that our group is to contribute an article for the quarterly newsletter. This newsletter is a distributed plantwide to keep everyone in the factory in the know of happenings. Events like Family days, awards, achievements of outstanding individuals, blood donation drives etc.

So when our group got the ‘rights’ to newsletter ‘real-estate’ , somehow, the task to produce the article came to me. I am glad it did. :)

Finally it’s over!

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

Last night was the final paper I had to sit for. Thank God it’s over!! :)

All of us celebrated a bit by  going to the Bangkok Jazz, a Thai restaurant at Chulan Square. It was right behind our business school. Most of just left our cars parked in the tower and walked to the place.

It was fun to be able to mingle with all the other coursemates in a less formal enviroment. Instead of the usual uptight, and as our Managing People’s lecturer calls it, the “performing” stage. Probably with exception of my group. We seem to be lots of random burst of laugthers during our team discussions. Maybe it’s just the nature of my teamates I guess. Even when we ARE suppose to be serious, we sneak a bit of fun into it!

Peter, a former ACS alumnus as well, took charge of ordering the food for everyone. No one cared what food is served as long as there is food. We were all so famished after the paper!!  I think in total we had about 4-5 appetizers, 1 green curry, some kerabu and lovely pineapple fried jasmine rice. With such a big group, all of the orders were in twos in order to feed everyone.

I thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship with those guys and we stayed there till it was 11pm!! WAY past my bedtime!! Today work started at 7am. Major sleep deprivation!

Thank you Sarah for your prayers!

Exam Blues

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

This is really bad. Tomorrow I’ll be having my first final exam since I left UTM. Although I have been attending classes diligently and gone through the notes for the past 2 weeks. I feel that I am very unprepared to sit for this!

I found something really humourous regarding my situation on the internet and would like to share it with you!

So anyone can offer tips on Business Economics and Managing People (Organizational Behaviour) at this point will be extremely helpful!

Music Mood lately

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

I am enjoying so much music lately. More than ever. Probably due the exam anxieties. Last time I was doing my bachelor, I used to listen to music while revisioning (I think, there is such a word).

This is a superb performance by Delta Goodrem during the Australian Commonwealth Games back in 2006. Loved the dress and loved the performance even more. What a top notch performance ~

Party like it’s 1999… wait a minute , may be it’s 1969!

Since I was suffering from a mild case of depression, so all of us decided to party away the night!!

We chose Bangsar because we didn’t want to be squishing our bodies with strangers and being perfumed by their body secretion but to our astonishment, Bangsar was like a ghost town. Not many people were there. Anyway that was good news for us!

Had a quick dinner at La Bodega’s. Ordered lots of tapas and one jug of Sangria to help up our alcohol units for the night. Later we adjourned to some place, I don’t even remember the name. Alex wanted to go there because there’s pool tables there. Then, we ordered some groovy pineapple cocktail and started playing pool. After a few games, we ordered Mojito. At this time, I think I greatly improved on my skills of hitting a ball with a puny stick!! Haha!

The boys had a great time poking balls and playing with their horns!

This is how our parents must have looked like with those funky glasses of yesteryears

Kar Ling and I after the drinks. We aspired to be the Hulks’ cousins!

Managing Change

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

As most of you already know, I am taking my MBA. Exams are scheduled for January 9th and January 14th. I know, time is running out. Tic toc

Anyway, there are some events over the past few days that has caused me to deal with change. Coincidentally, one of the topics that I am studying is teaching MBA students how to manage change. One particular slide really phrased out how I was feeling.

  • Denial : Despite the obvious signs shows, I was unwilling to confront the reality
  • Anger : I started becoming very angry and was raving like a mad woman towards the responsible party. Although the party knows nothing of this.
  • Bargaining: There really was not much of bargaining. I quickly moved into the next phase.
  • Depression: I was rather depressed when I finally realised the reality of the loss
  • Acceptance: Once I arrived in this stage, only then I realised that I needed to accept this change and learn how to act towards this events in the future.

The five phases I just described is actually termed as the coping cycle. Didn’t know that what we study in the MBA course is so applicable in personal life as well!!
