The little fella is beginning to understand us. I’m beginning to suspect that his favourite word at the moment is now ‘kai kai(yes, i’m indulging ourselves and the grandparents with baby talk)

Mini D with Cousin J and H

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

About 2.5 months ago, we made a trip back to Sitiawan to celebrate my father-in-law’s 70th birthday. Mini-D was just touching his 3-month mark, I was a little bit reluctant to make the trip fearing that he might not be able to travel well. But since all the relatives were coming back, we decided to go ahead. The highlight of the trip was that Mini-D met his cousins, Joseph and Hannah for the first time! Joseph absolutely adored Mini-D and constantly calling him, Baby Ethan this and Baby Ethan that! His little sister, Hannah however, didn’t really warmed up to Mini-D since Hannah’s mom carried him and little Hannah felt a stab of jealousy. No worries though, in the end, all was well and the two were fast friends!

The Baby Wearing Concept

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Kev is right. My next 100 posts or more are all about Mini-D; one way or another. When I was pregnant with Mini-D, I stumbled upon this concept called baby wearing. After scouring through some online resources, then only I realised that this supposed new fad of baby wearing has always been with our Asian culture except we don’t call it baby wearing.

For those familiar with Hong Kong movies, we usually see the ‘Mei Tai’ being featured. In fact my own grandmother actually wore my mom using a mei tai!  Just that I think they didn’t call it that.

This is basically what it looks like. But with the Western world picking this up, now it has evolved, using more luxurious and more beautiful fabric, this is what some of them can look like!

Looks very stylo milo doesn’t't it? But I took one look at the price tag and was very shocked! It cost around the RM 400 price RANGE!

Then I started looking around for cheaper  carriers. I found pulak the ring-sling ones (there is also pouch, which is similar but made for only a single person usage since it has to be ‘made-to-measure’)

These are priced anything from ~RM100 to RM300. Nicer and cheaper. The downside to this is that the weight is on one shoulder rather than on both shoulders and the body like the Mei Tai. The upside is you don’t have that many ties to deal with. To use the Mei Tai can be quite challenging. Went through the videos posted on YouTube. NOT EASY!

So I continued my search. Finally after considering the price factor, suitability for multiple users, the weather, I finally decided on this! The Ergo Baby Sport Carrier! (not that I’m endorsing this brand. The generic name would be the soft-structured carrier or simply as SSC! ) Snap, Snap & Go. But since I didn’t manage to snap myself wearing Mini-D, which I must soon, this is how the carrier actually looks like!

I must say, ever since getting the carrier, we hardly use the stroller anymore. The carrier is so much more convenient. We can use the escalator with no problems instead of waiting for the lift, which at times can be rather full and crowded. Mini-D finds it so much more fun since he’s able to see things from his parents’ eye-level rather than seeing people’s butts most of the time!

Mini-D: Week 8

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

My maternity leave ended (boo-hoo) and Mini-D is now two months old. The little fella has been showing lots of facial expressions lately and he is better at tricking his grandparents with his imitation burping sounds. Although he looked very happy in the burping photos, the actual fact is that he hates to be burped because sometimes it take quite while before that happens. Anyway, this is him when he’s trying to manja.

Mini-D: Burp Session

Friday, April 16th, 2010

Since Mommy is due to go back to work, have been feeding Mini-D EBM(expressed breast milk) through the bottle. IMO, this is one of the many ‘conveniences’ of breastfeeding. No bottles, no need to wash, no need to sterlize, etc. and of course, no need to burp. Mini-D somehow is rather gassy. He hardly burps but boy, does he has lots of gas! When he  breaks wind, (i like this translation for kentut!) can be rather loud and long.  When we were at the pediatrician’s, even the doctor chuckled when the little fella decided to let out gas! “Better out than in!”, he said.

This is por por trying to burp Mini-D.

Mini-D: Week 6

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

Mini-D has touched Week No. 6 and am proud to say that except for the 1st week of his life, he is 100% on breastmilk.

Week6

With warnings from friends who are breastfeeding their children i.e. Sila, having your little one on 100% breastmilk is no easy feat. Lucky for me, I have a live-in lactation consultant (certified one, dun pray pray) so managed to get Mini-D to latch on quite well. The depressing part was that I could not produce enough to feed him. He was rather hungry for the 1st week of his life which explains why we had to supplement with formula. But when the production went up, Mini-D happily settled for the ‘fresh milk’ and refused the formula!

Mini D: Week 4 @ Happy Full Moon

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

Sorry for the last post,  Mini-D had his full moon party already. Relatives from Penang  and Sitiawan came down just for the occasion. Had a small little gathering. Simple affair. Mommy was too forgetful and didn’t manage to snap any pics though. Have to wait for his uncle and aunties to supply the pics. But she did manage to get a pic of Mini-D and his great-grandmother!

Obviously Great-Grandma was the one distracted with the attention! :p

Mini D: Week 3

Friday, March 12th, 2010

As much as I want to say, “Oh My, how time flies”, I just couldn’t. Having Mini-D around is definitely a joy but it also makes the night seems so long. Thankfully, the little fella has been quite cheerful with occasional tantrums when he doesn’t get his milk on time and when his nappy is soiled. Of course, he always have his grandparents ‘coming to the rescue’ when he hollers for help! :p
