Fun Summer Semester

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

I’m so happy. Yesterday, I went to collect my previous semester’s results and handed in my summer semester’s assignment. A whole week before the deadline. So proud of myself for not leaving till the last minute to complete it.

The summer semester I took this subject called Games and Strategies for Business, which is essentially Game Theory. Yes, that thing they did on a Beautiful Mind. Nash Equilibrium , through the blockbuster was very badly portrayed. Pity the old man who came up with such a powerful theory and yet when it went to the silver screen, the wrong theory was shown! Haha.

Anyway, that was only one aspect of the whole paper. The rest was rather enjoyable. Familiar names like John Von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern constantly mentioned and before we knew it, the lecturer was flashing Dr. Strangelove, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb during one of the lectures and asked us to analyze it! Sounds like a fun class? :)

The assignment was equally as fun but still very challenging.  During the lectures, I had this crazy idea of analyzing a traditional practice among the Sitiawan folks and folks from smaller towns/villages: main kutu. If some of you noticed that I have been asking around for this main kutu thing on FaceBook or even Twitter, it doesn’t mean that I am going to start one. It is really for the assignment!

I’m glad that I just need to finish off the exam for this one, and I have only two more modules to go! Yippee. It was truly a long and tiring road before I even got to this point. I just hope that I will have the willpower to complete this and graduate!

A Temporary Full Time Student

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

I am having a block module running now and have taken some time off from work to concentrate on it. I cannot imagine myself working and studying for 1.5 weeks. I will probably go mad!  Anyway, it is quite fun to stay at home! :)

The holidays is over before…

it even really began??

OMG, I feel like a school kid again. It was as though yesterday when I sat for my last paper and now, summer semester is start this Saturday. Sigh.. How come time seems to just zoom pass us when we are having fun??WHY????

Finally, a breather!

This is so long overdue. Due to the busy work schedule as well as the immense stress from the group projects the previous semester, this place was neglected badly! Good news is with yesterday’s exams over, I have almost 1 month of post-grad-free-days! Yippee!!!

Looking back the previous semester, I have learnt one very important lesson, and I quote San @ ” To Hell with Diversification, Stick to Yer Mates! “

The fact was, this semester,  we ‘allowed’ the full timers, foreigners to be our group mates is also due to me wanting to have a more ‘diversified’ outlook on the subject. But nonetheless, the good thing in this whole mess is that I have learnt that friends are great support when you need to vent things out! And of course, having good groupmates (Inbha & Henry in the pic) more than enough make up for the stress the bad ones give you. So the following semester, being ‘kiasu’ we already formed groups! How about that!

Anyway, I am looking forward to just enjoying spending quiet evenings working out at the gym to lose all the late night snack fats and perhaps even go shopping when the sales are back!  I can’t wait!

Group Members Makes a World of Difference

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Thus far, I have been very lucky when it comes to group assignment. I’ve had great member to work with and it has always been a pleasure despite all the hard work and long hours put in. But this semester, seems that my luck has ran out. Now, this is how I look like.

I’ve got international full time students on my team and these fellas culturally is very different and somehow they seem to want to just off load all the work to the Malaysians! Pfft!!!

Since we are on the toys subject …

Everyone seems to be trying to get their hands on the new iPhone 3G.

Unfortunately for us in Malaysia, this phone has yet to be launched. My friends who are interested in this phone have been really keeping tabs on it. Hong Kong and Singapore are the two closest places that have been surveyed and the good news is that you can actually buy this phone unlocked. These searching for unlocked cell phones makes the whole experience even more exciting for the buyer I guess.

I really got to take my hat off to the marketing folks over at Apple. No matter what kind of product they launch from Mp3 players to their super canggih computers, they seem to have found the winning formula in pushing this products to the market. Sell at a premium price with a seemingly superior design/technology and horn a huge following to their ‘cult’. Maybe I should plan my next class (marketing) assignment on the folks over at Apple. Know anyone ??

Starting a New Semester/Year

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Wow, it has been 1 year already since I started my post-graduate studies. Throughout this one year, I must say life have been very tough except for the last two weeks when I had my holidays. The rest of the time was either rushing for class after work, rushing for assignment, rushing to finish studying for exams! Talking about Life on the fast lane. Anyway, the whole craziness will start again. I hope this time, there won’t be so much damage!

Today’s IBS day

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Not Irritable Bowel Syndrome day but the day of the exam for my module this semester. International Business Strategy. Like most of you already know from my online rambling, due to many factors which involves  malfunctioning of husband and car, I also had the toughest luck of having a terrible case of food poisoning the day before. This must be Athena’s bad luck streak. Must really wonder if I did happen to break any mirrors that I didn’t realise. Anyway, the exam’s this evening and let’s hope I can get away with it.. Really dreading the scenario of re-sitting for it!!!

Topsy-turvy

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Things at work has been slightly chaotic. My boss for the past one and half years has resigned to join back his former company and because that former company is a competitor (which I don’t see why, we are really in different business segment) he had to leave within 24 hours of his resignation. So such sudden departure has cause quite a stir among the engineering communities (yes, it is plural) here. Many were whispering down the hallways why the short notice? Has he done anything wrong? Even when the Vice President resigned there isn’t a 24 hour pack up order! Come to think of it, even when the CEO left, it was for a longer period of notice. Anyway, the direction came from HR director so it is to be obeyed.

Besides the chaotic situation at work,  I have a major exam coming in less than a fortnight’s time. Time is jealous of me. just cannot find the will power to even continue on a study marathon. My attention span’s the same of that with a 9-year old. Alex has been scolding me (for my own good) to just keep at it. Let’s face it, I am no scholar material but I also know that if I don’t find my will power soon, I could jolly well be facing getting an ‘F’ for this subject!!! Boo hoo!!!

Results for Athena’s Second Semester is OUT!

Friday, July 11th, 2008

And she’s pretty happy about it. For the Semester II, as usual, I took only two subject as I did not want to overload myself with work and studies. One subject was a block module meaning that we completed all 33 hours of classes within one week as the lecturer was from the China campus. Jolly old fellow too. He looks like Father Christmas if he had beard. Most delightful man. He is going to retired by August this year. So our batch is the last one he’s teaching.

Second subject I took was law. The classes was very enjoyable although it was on Saturdays. The assignment was real hard and this class was 100 % coursework. I love these type of subjects. Makes life very easy for part-timers like me.

All in all, my scores for this semester is much better than the previous one. I hope I can continue these scores!!
